Touhou Project is a series of bullet hell shmup games that date back to 1997. It takes place in a land called Gensokyo, inhabited by all who have "passed into fantasy." Also all the main characters are women for some reason, save for one guy.
I started playing these games back in 2020 or earlier, starting with (admittedly kind of crusty) fangames before finding the real deal, and I was hooked. My first mainline Touhou game was Imperishable Night, and it just so happens that it was also very accessible for beginners. I know it took a while to get my first no-continue clear, though it's uncertain quite how long.
On this page, you can find all my stuff related to Touhou!
I love game stats, so before this I tracked all my completed Touhou runs on this website. However, it's got a few kinks to it, so I wanted to try and make one myself! I was also interested in building a lil website at the time, so why not combine the two?
This personal tracker has a nicer looking table that can hold much more information for a given run, such as a title, date, the ability to see and hold multiple runs per category, and hold fangame clears too. I wasn't so sure how to go about this when I made this, so each run is held in a seperate variable. Yup, instead of making 1 list with a list for each run, I somehow though it would be a good idea to store each run in a variable containing a single list. I'm a bit lazy to rework this code though.
I like the way my first iteration of Touhou Tracker looks as a chart format, however there's a problem with using it with Touhou 20. You see, Touhou 20 lets you customize your loadout, leading to more than 8000 combinations. Of course, there's no way I'm going to finish the game 8000 times, but it sure would be funny to record quite how many times I'll do it. And a chart that size won't do.
The new tracker instead uses an entry based display. The page loads all entries on it, and each entry has much more condensed information. It comes with filters to help find a specific run. I also added a capture bar to each one, to see how my spellcard capture rate improves over time, but now I feel a bit lazy to rewatch the replay and note how many captures I get, lol. If the block based viewing gets too cluttered, I might switch it out for a forum-style list view, then click to open a popup window with the information of the run.
I am a big sucker for Touhou music. ZUN has such a way of making amazing melodies and unique compositions. Music is a highlight for many Touhou fans due to all of the awesome fan works available on the internet. His lenient derivative work policy lets fans create and profit off of his IP with very little restrictions. As such, fans all across the world have re-arranged tunes in every genre you could imagine. In fact's the Touhou Lossless Music Archive, has over 1TB of pure audio, all fan made music!
This page has some of my favourite Touhou arrangements. It's divided into 3 categories depending on how "intense" the music is, so you can find a type you are comfortable with! I've made sure to provide the general information for each song in case you'd like to look into any of these circles and their songs. Do note that it is all Youtube embeds, so it might load slower the more videos I add.
